From Resistance to Flow: The Water-Inspired Path to Mindfulness
But also... Tiny Acts of Resistance
I’ve got a challenging and important reflection for you today, my friends.
In today’s episode, we explore the powerful lessons of the water element in meditation. Water moves with ease, follows the path of least resistance, and embraces the journey rather than the destination. And yet…
How do these teachings fit when we are called to resist injustice, fearmongering and authoritarian abuse of power?
Letting go does NOT mean inaction.
Letting go does NOT mean ignoring.
Letting go does NOT mean emotional bypassing.
Rather, letting go invites us to reflect on how and where we can soften even as our personal resistance creates change over time.
If you’ve ever struggled with fear of the unknown or feeling stuck, this episode is for you.

Tiny Acts of Resistance
I’m guessing I’m not the only one who feels completely frozen some days. Completely overwhelmed by the amount of information coming at us, by having to sort fact from fiction, by feeling like we should be doing more to stand up against what is happening in the United States and worldwide.
I’ve been delighted and grateful to stumble across some brilliant writers sharing lists of tiny acts of resistance. Things that remind us that there is much we can do within our daily lives, much that is supportive to our well-being and to our communities.

Today’s mini meditation practice works with one of my favorite Zen koans from John Tarrant Roshi:
The coin that is lost in the river is found in the river.
Curious? Join me for a 10-minute meditation; the river soundscape you hear in the background was recorded by acoustic ecologist Gordon Hempton.
